Our class is reading 4 different versions of the Gingerbread Man. We are then comparing and contrasting the characters, the setting, the rhyming words and if he was eaten or not in each of the books.

Audrey traveled to India over Winter break to visit family. She came back bearing gifts for the class.

Girls received hand crafted sparkly bangles and the boys received bejeweled pens.

Adeti was the first
Star of the Week of 2012.

She brought in a balancing eagle as her favorite toy to share with the class.

She spun around and the eagle never moved off her finger.

Adeti was even able to balance the eagle on her nose. Go Adeti, GO !!

Some 1a families celebrate Chanukah
With the help of Nicholas and Charlie's Moms we made edible dreidels.
Also, we ate another traditional food during Chanukah---latkes and apple sauce.

1A Takes over the North Market !!

Each group had a passport of stores in the North Market.

Then they had to search for the answers to the questions asked in the passport.

At the Taste of Belgium they sold delicious waffles.

Fish Guys sell seafood from all the the world and the U.S.

The Vietnamese Restaurant is popular with the locals.

The spring rolls are a top seller.

We started our afternoon with a scary story by flashlight.

Then the brainiacs prepared themselves for the Halloween parade.

Happy Diwali !!!

The festival of lights.

Audrey's Mom, Adeti's Mom and Arman's Mom

On October 26th these lovely Moms visited 1a and shared with us the spirit of Diwali.
We tasted food they eat during the holiday and we learned about the story behind Diwali. The moms also brought in traditional clothing their children wear during Diwali.

Adeti's mom started out the celebration with a power point presentation about Diwali.

These are some of the snacks we munched on during the presentation.
Also we had mango ice cream and mango juice. YUM !!

Thank-you so much !! We had a fabulous Diwali celebration.

Our Campfire with our 3rd Grade Buddies was a huge success.
It was a beautiful fall day filled with stories, jokes, s'mores, hot chocolate and lots of laughs.

The 3rd grade roasted the marshmallows for the 1st graders.

On Wednesday she performed Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star on the violin.

Monday we went on a field trip to
Kroger Marketplace!!!

First stop, of course, was Starbucks for a Vanilla Bean Frappacino

Finished product was a delicious success.

Next stop...produce aisle.
Bev explained where produce was grown and how the produce arrived
to the Gahanna Kroger.
Bev let us sample the California grown strawberries.
I think the brainiacs were happy for the samples.

Onto the Bakery...

Bev can even make roses out of icing...orange roses that is.

The main attraction of our tour was Captain Brad
and Hank the Lobster.

Robert was a fan of the lobsters.

Did you know that Kroger gets up to 7 deliveries a day?

But we definitely had a blast at Kroger Marketplace.
