5th grade friends -

Mr. Simpson invited us to his classroom for a Winter activity. We designed our own snowflake stain glass. Each 1A student colored a 5x5 square of paper and cut out a designated pattern. Our classroom window has a beautiful display of our snowflakes. Come check it out !

Joseph was the last Rock Star of 2012. Joseph has 2 older brothers who also attend Columbus Academy. He read the class Mr.Silly, showed us his favorite lego cube and shared his love of ice hockey. The 1A brainiacs loved the snack of M&M cookies. Thanks Joseph !!

The following pictures are of the students participating
in a Time Treasure Hunt. They had to search the classroom looking for hidden time cards. Next, their job was to write the time down in clock form.

Mrs Harris's last day

On behalf of everyone in 1A we want to say " CONGRATULATIONS! " to Mrs Harris for finishing her student teaching. She will be greatly missed.  On her last day she was overwhelmed with emotions from the generous gift basket from 1A students and families. Thanks Mrs. Harris for days filled with Math games, read alouds and fun facts about Brazil. Good Luck with your next adventure.

Robbie shared many pictures of his family of 4, his love of Science and his dream of being a Paleontologist. His book The Giving Tree was a class favorite.

Nun- next person spins       Gimel- player takes all
Shin- Player puts 1 or 2 in       Hey- player takes half

Kelli hopes it lands on Gimel.

Here are pictures of a Math game we play on occasion. This one is called Top-it, which you play with a deck of cards. You flip over 2 cards, the card that has the highest number gets to keep both cards.

Here one Math Group is working with Frames and Arrows. This activity involves skip counting forwards or backwards.

Kelli Rocks !!
Kelli had lots to share with the class this week. Her pictures of her family were awesome. She had 3 favorite books and she brought a lego camper with accessories for her favorite toy. Kelli and her sister put together the legos, even though Kelli insists Rachel was no help at all. Of course her snack was well received, 1A will never turn down treats, especially chocolate ones.
Thanks, Kelli !!!
