Here are pictures of a Math game we play on occasion. This one is called Top-it, which you play with a deck of cards. You flip over 2 cards, the card that has the highest number gets to keep both cards.

Here one Math Group is working with Frames and Arrows. This activity involves skip counting forwards or backwards.

Kelli Rocks !!
Kelli had lots to share with the class this week. Her pictures of her family were awesome. She had 3 favorite books and she brought a lego camper with accessories for her favorite toy. Kelli and her sister put together the legos, even though Kelli insists Rachel was no help at all. Of course her snack was well received, 1A will never turn down treats, especially chocolate ones.
Thanks, Kelli !!!

Mikey was a Rock Star !!!

Mikey's favorite toy was his DS. Ninjago was popular with many students even though Mrs. Hildahl had never heard of it. She learns something new everyday from these brainiacs !! Mikey had a delicious homemade snack of pumpkin muffins that were AMAZING !! Thank-you Mikey !!!

Our November Birthday's were Hailey and Kelli !!
Hailey had her grandmother come in to read the class a story. Kelli read a story to her classmates.
Hope you girls had a fun birthday !!

Mrs Sarna read a book about Diwali.

We loved having Ria's Mom visit our classroom. Her traditional Indian attire was beautiful. 1A learned many new facts about Diwali "The festival of light." She also shared some typical Indian snacks that are eaten during the holiday. Thank-you Sarna family for the goodies we loved them.

Today was a special day for one of our students. Why? We had a mystery reader visit our class and it was a 1A parent !! Here are some clues :
1. It was a Mom
2. She did not have blond hair
3. She wore glasses

It was Josh's Mom !!! He was completely surprised and ecstatic.
Diane read the book I can be President, too.

Students trying to figure out what's in a spring roll.

Last Friday the first grade took a field trip to the North Market. The students were split into small groups. Each student had a "passport" to help them navigate through the Market. Their job was to answer questions about each store and receive a stamp for their passport. The last stop on their travels was to visit the Candy Shack and try some "old fashion" candy. The trip was a HUGE SUCCESS, thanks to the many volunteers !!!

CHARLIE is a ROCKSTAR!!

He shared some great photos of him and his family. The class loved the photo of his face painted with an angry birds character. The toy he shared was a stuff animal that he received when he was born, Lily. She looks like Charlie as cared for her a long, long time. My favorite thing that Charlie shared was he loves being the best big brother ever. You ROCK, Charlie !!

Pumpkin Math

Nothing says Halloween than Pumpkin Math. Ms. Saide created 6 stations that all involved Math and the lovely pumpkin. The slideshow above shows some pictures from the different tasks. The best was the students estimating the circumference of the pumpkin with a piece of string. Shaia's guess was exactly right on the money!! Enjoy the pictures !!

The First Grade had a fall performance this past week. The performance had a Halloween theme. The students really seemed to enjoy themselves. 1A even got to use the xylophones during on song. Way to go brainiancs !

campfire -

1A met up with their buddies for an October campfire. Even though it was in the 70s the hot chocolate and smores were a big hit. Mrs. Oeth told some funny stories and the students loved visiting with their buddies.
