Before heading off for Spring Break the First Graders traveled to Akai Hana for a Japanese lunch. After eating they visited a Japanese grocery store where they participated in a scavenger hunt.
Yesterday we had our Annual Japan Celebration Day to end our Japan unit in 1st grade. Each classroom had a different Japan activity. Mrs Klugg taught the students some Japanese playground games. Mrs. Simmons helped the students create carp kites. Mrs. Warstler showed the students how easy origami can be with some discipline and patience. And the best for last, Ms Saide held sumo matches with the students. It was crazy fun !!! Enjoy the pictures !!
Ms. Saide introduced Base 10 blocks to the Brainiacs last week. Each cube represents one unit. The students got to explore all the blocks. Check out what they discovered !
The longs are 10 units and the flats are 100 units.
We are starting to study the country of Japan. Some CA 10th graders visited our classroom to teach the 1st grade some origami. The finished product was a heart valentine.
