Alaina is a Rock Star !!
She read a Pete the Cat book to her classmates, Pete the Cat Rocking in My School Shoes. It was a big hit with the class. They loved the parts where they got to read out loud, "Oh goodness NO !!!"
Alaina shared photos of her family and brought in a doll to show the class.

Happy Birthday, Tanner !!!
Tanner had a special visit from his Dad, who read a story to the class.

We are currently studying the Global Marketplace in 1A. To get a better understanding of where our food comes from the whole first grade went on a trip to Huffman's Market in Upper Arlington. This market has been owned by Tim Huffman for 26 years. They are a small family run market that specializes in locally grown fruits, veggies and meat. The students got a behind the scenes tour of all the departments at Huffman's.

Huffman's Market Field Trip

One of the student's favorite things about 1st grade is the mystery reader. Usually the mystery reader is someone who comes to our class to read a story. The best part is the students get to guess who he/she is before they enter the room. The class asks about 10 yes/no questions as hints to figuring out the mystery reader. It is always a surprise and usually puts happy faces on all the students. This year we have had 2 mystery readers, Ria's Mom and Shaia's older sister, Shadya.

We meet with our 3rd grade buddies every A day.
Here are some of the activities we have done:
* Questions and Answers
*Outdoor recess with popsicles
*Leaf Creatures
*Balloon Toss
On a gorgeous fall day we did a balloon activity with our buddies. Ms. Saide put a water balloon on one tarp and the students had to move it to the other tarp without your hands touching the balloon. Some kids got a shock when the balloon popped near them. Check out the pictures, it looked like a blast.

Look closely, a pink balloon is airborne !

Nice landing of the yellow balloon !

Our first Rock star of the Week was Grace.
She shared her favorite book Purplicious. It was a class favorite.
Her American Doll was a big hit, too !!
Thanks for the delicious brownies, Grace !!!

Here are some of my 1A friends visiting Mrs. Hildahl
at the concession stand !!
Come on by I am there every football game !!

1A in the Academy Paw Paw Patch
Searching for the Paw Paw fruit
Tanner in disguise with Paw Paw leaves

1A discovered the Paw Paw fruit with the help from Mr. Hildahl. The Paw Paw is a native fruit in Ohio and they even grow on campus. Mrs. Hildahl brought some of the fruit for the children to try and everyone tried it, but only a few liked the Paw Paws. Mr. Hildahl is a huge fan though. The Paw Paw tastes like a cross between a mango and a banana. We looked for Paw Paws in the Academy Paw Paw patch but no luck due to the intense rain storms in early September.

Alaina balancing on Ms. Saide's toy. Great stuff, Alaina !!

1A has started having Rock Star of the Week. Ms Saide was our first Rock Star of the year. Each day of the week the Rock Star shares something special in their life. Monday is a pictures, Tuesday is their favorite book, Wednesday is a toy, Thursday they get a cool chair at their desk and Friday they share a snack with the class.
